Damson Triple success for Lakeland Artisan damson products

Lakeland Artisan is committed to creating award-winning artisan food and drink, focusing on using the very best quality natural ingredients. This has proved to be another success this year with three damson products being shortlisted for The Great British Food Awards 2019 which includes Damson Extra Jam, Damson Syrup and Damson Gin Liqueur.   

All our damson products are made using local damsons from the Lyth Valley just a short drive away from our production kitchen in Staveley.

Lakeland Artisan has produced Damson Extra Jam for several years and they were inspired to produce our real fruit syrups when the Directors of the business introduced the damson syrup into glasses of fizz on their wedding day to welcome their guests.  The guests loved it so much that they asked them to add it to his product range so that they were able to buy them and enjoy them at home.

We are proud of our very versatile, intensely flavoured, natural, real fruit syrups which are made from quality ingredients and sourced locally wherever possible. 

Our real fruit Damson syrups is extremely versatile and can create a fantastic range of food and drink, they can be used at breakfast time, drizzling the thick, luxuriously fruity syrup over pancakes, waffles, porridge or made into smoothies or milkshakes. It is wonderful served in prosecco and champagne, a great natural flavoursome ingredient to make a wide variety of cocktails using gin, vodka and rums etc or simply mixed with still or sparkling water or lemonade to make refreshing, tasty, tangy, fruit cordial drinks.

The Lakeland Damson Gin Liqueur uses the Damson Syrup which is blended with quality London Gin, and with the growing gin market has proved to be just as popular as their other damson products.

Such has been the success and growth of the business, Lakeland Artisan now has a dedicated shop on Crescent Road, in the heart of Windermere, which opened its doors in February 2019.  The shop showcases Lakeland Artisan's range of handcrafted products alongside other stunning local handmade produce. 

From the company’s beginnings in 2006 making preserves, Lakeland Artisan has grown to encompass not just the Cumbrian Delights range, but also Mawson’s Original Drinks, Lakeland Liqueurs and Lakeland Hampers, which offers recipients a taste of the many delicious local products that the Lake District and Cumbria have to offer.

“We’ve grown from small beginnings,” says Geoff Monkman, Managing Director “but the inspiration for all that we do is here in the Lakes. Whether it is Lyth Valley damsons or local honey, the recipes start with the amazing produce we find in the area.” It’s a formula that has helped Lakeland Artisan to achieve national recognition in the form of numerous Great Taste Awards: the Oscars of the British food industry, year after year.

“We’re proud of what we do here and proud to have helped to put Cumbrian flavours firmly on the map. We’ve achieved a lot in our first thirteen years, but there’s still more we can do.”
